Our Finale--the Giant Gap (NF American)

We made the hike down the canyon walls through terrifying amounts of poison oak, mosquitoes and boyscouts to run this gem. Yet another example of beautiful, fun california whitewater. Once you're in "The Gap" the most reasonable route out is downstream, but the whitewater at these flows was quite manageble. I only remember a couple drops which would be a little tricky to scout but there are quite a few which would be hard to portage...

Day Three--The Classic 49 to Bridgeport on the SF Yuba. This section (at these flows) was straightforward read and run class IV-V- (with a couple portages). We had sunny skies, aquamarine water, big white granite boulders and a hoot of a time making our way down this one.

Day Two, Loves Falls to Downieville...

We had a great second day--met up with Bill Sheppell from the southeast and ran the lower (good) section of Loves Falls and continued down the next class IV stretch. A very pretty section with some fun rapids. We put in just upstream of the PCT bridge as suggested by Jason Rackley"Oregon Kayaking"

Day 1: Attempt Fordyce creek, "run" (e.g. portage) SF yuba from Indian campground to Lake Spaulding. The road to Fordyce was closed due to snow so with not too many options, we thought to run an interesting sounding section of the SF Yuba. We neglected to read the "arduous portaging" part of the guidebook description...
